As the core cluster of the domestic laser industry, Wuhan gathers a group of industry leaders such as Raycus and HGTECH, building a fully autonomous industry chain from core materials and key components to complete equipment and downstream applications. Recently, a major technological breakthrough was achieved in the single-mode 10kW fiber laser developed by Wuhan enterprises, overcoming global challenges such as energy loss and beam offset during high-power laser transmission. The nation’s first Laser Industry Quality Innovation Consortium, established in September 2025, has landed in Wuhan, uniting 33 industry chain enterprises to tackle key technical bottlenecks. Currently, 6 major technical results have been achieved, focusing on cutting-edge directions such as 10kW lasers, ultrafast lasers, and LiDAR, breaking barriers between industry, academia, and research, and accelerating technology commercialization.
Today, Wuhan’s laser technology has expanded far beyond traditional applications like cutting and welding, entering high-end sectors such as semiconductor wafer processing, aerospace, AI chip packaging, and the low-altitude economy. HGTECH’s 12-inch wafer processing equipment has entered leading semiconductor production lines, and Raycus’ picosecond/femtosecond ultrafast lasers enable high-precision processing of silicon carbide wafers and glass micropores, boosting the domestic high-end chip industry. Meanwhile, local efforts are driving the integration of laser equipment with smart operating systems, equipping traditional laser machinery with “smart brains” for an intelligent hardware-software upgrade.
